Priv8tepir8tes Movies Guide to being a ‘Top Gangster’

1. Getting yourself a ‘Great Gangster Name’

Every great ‘mobster’ needs a top gangster name that his friends and associates can call him by. Although most people referred to Tony as ‘Tony Soprano’ (said in an Italian gangster voice) you at least need a unique and distinguishable name/surname that sets you apart from the ‘normal’ people. Famous real life gangsters have gone by the name of Al Capone, Jack ‘Legs’ Diamond, Dutch Schultz, Charles ‘Lucky’ Luciano and the famed Billy the Kid also known as his aliases Henry Antrim and William Harrison Bonney.

2. Getting yourself a ‘Great Gangster Car’

Blacked out windows, big wheels, big bonnets the compulsory black or silver colouring….every good gangster needs a scary set of wheels to complete his gangster look. Favorite car makes include the super stylish Aston Martin DB4 as seen in Bond, the Jaguar XJ Series II as driven by Bob Hoskins in the 1980’s thriller ‘The Long Good Friday’ – whilst of course the BMW, Audi, Range Rover and the Bentley have all enjoyed appearances.

Famous ‘designer’ cars used in The Sopranos series include a 2003 Cadillac CTS used by Paulie Walnuts to destroy Christopher Moltisanti’s new front yard during Season 6, plus the red 1997 Mercury Villager minivan driven by Tony and Paulie, a black Cadillac Deville driven by crew member Vito Spatafore and a pair of blue Lincoln Town Cars used by rival gangster Phil Leotardo.

3. Getting yourself a ‘Great Gangster Outfit’

Now that you have the name, and the wheels you need the threads to go alongside it….sharp suits, shiny black winklepicker shoes, black bowler hats..the sunglasses (to hide the guilty eyes after committing a crime)…finished off with a big fat cigar…did someone say there was a Gangster in the building?? Although Tony Sopranos was probably best recognized for parading round in his vest and bathrobe, his usual attire consisted of a rather nice pair of slacks and short sleeve polo shirt, probably made of expensive material such as silk. Watches, necklaces, shirts and accessories are all of the highest quality and brand name, letting people know you have the money and the power…

4. Getting Yourself a ‘Great Gangster Family’

Last but not least - every good and successful gangster has a supportive family behind them. plus a couple of hefty wingmen should anything go wrong…The Soprano clan really put the meaning back into ‘family’ – if you messed with one you messed with them all. Family values take on a whole new meaning!

Close friend become almost family – if you are welcomed in like Silvio Dante; ‘Consigliere’ to the family, or Dr Jennifer Melfi; Tony’s therapist that becomes more than just a friend…whatever happens, you know that people ‘will always have your back’.

So there you have it – the Ultimate Gangster Guide! What are you waiting for – go and get that cigar….!
